The portrait of the circuit rider is brought to life by Rev. Dr. Joel Catlin. Catlin has a doctor of ministry degree from Asbury Theological Seminary and has portrayed the circuit rider more than 200 times at youth rallies, church celebrations, historical events, and the Illinois State Fair. He is the Pastor of Discipleship at First United Methodist Church of O'Fallon, IL and serves on the ILCAAAP Board of Trustees. Dr. Joel P. Catlin
Short Biography
Joel graduated from Springfield High School, University of Indianapolis, Christian Theological Seminary and most recently received a Doctor of Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary in the field of Church Growth, Evangelism and Missions. His Doctoral Thesis was awarded the highest honor Asbury presents a Doctor of Ministry student, the Faculty's Distinguished Dissertation Award for Excellence in Research in Pastoral Ministry. Catlin has specialized in Christian Theatre for the last thirty years and has performed in hundreds of productions throughout the Midwest. His is widely known for his portrayals of the famous circuit rider Peter Cartwright. Catlin is extensively involved in church camping and his most recent publication is through Cokesbury in that arena. He is an avid fisher, hunter, canoeist, outdoorsman and artist. He has four adult sons and two daughter-in-laws. He has been a United Methodist Pastor in Central Illinois throughout the last twenty-five years and currently serves as the Pastor of Discipleship at First United Methodist Church, O'Fallon II where he resides with his wife of 30 years, the Rev. Donna Catlin.
