Alcohol Action Alert

May 2, 2006

Alcohol at Historic Sites (SB 2454)

During the debate on the House Floor, Representatives were assured SB 2454 would not allow alcohol to be sold at the Historic Sites by individuals or organizations that rent the facilities. Yesterday Rep. Rich Brauer introduced a bill (HB 5787) to remove the provision that allows alcohol to be sold at retail at facilities, properties, and buildings under the jurisdiction of the Historic Sites and Preservation or the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The bill would take effect IF the Alcohol at Historic Sites Bill (SB 2454) becomes law. HB 5787 is in the House Rules Committee, and it is unlikely that it will be called for a vote.

Abraham Lincoln said, "I am not a temperance man, but I am temperate in this—I don’t drink."

For Immediate Action

  1. Call the Governor (800-642-3112) and ask him to VETO SB 2454. Alcohol should not be sold or served at Illinois Historic Sites.
  2. Forward this Alert to 6 others.
