Gambling Action Alert
HB 1124 Legalizes Gambling in Bars
HB 1124 passed in the Senate Executive Committee and could be called for a vote in the Senate at any time. HB 1124 will legalize gambling in bars and expand gambling in every community statewide.
While the bill states that card games are not included, this type of gambling will expand in increments until electronic gambling devices, slots, and video poker are legalized in bars, restaurants, bowling alleys, convenience stores, etc.
Adding the element of cash and prizes for a contest between 2 or more individuals will make the activity even more attractive to young people, and many could become addicted to gambling. Research has shown that gamblers take more risks while drinking and gamble until all of their money is gone.
