Gambling Update
Senate Cancels Sessions This Week
The Senate canceled their session for this week, but they could come back next week to vote on a gambling bill. The Senate Executive Committee has voted on three different mega gambling expansion bills since May. At this point they have not selected the number of the "shell" bill that will be used for the next gambling bill. The bill will be introduced very quickly with only a one hour notice before it is heard in committee, generally in the "dark of night" when there is little time to notify you or get calls to Senators before they vote on the bill.
If you have not called your Senator, please do so this week. Senators need to know that their constituents are opposed to more gambling. Use this time to visit or call your Senator in their district office to voice your concerns and ask them to vote NO on all gambling bills.
The Veto Session will be on October 2-4 and October 10-12. ILCAAAP will hold a Rally at the Capitol on Wednesday, October 3, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The program will include Speakers, including Rev. Tom Grey, Grassroots Lobbying, Displays, Gospel Music and a Congregational Sing. Please mark your calendars and bring down a carload from your church or community group.
