Gambling Action Alert
No vote today - Keep up the "heat"!
Gambling expansion and a public works construction plan are linked to the mass transit bill. Republicans will not supply the votes on the mass transit bill without passage of the gambling bill, which is tied to the funding of the construction projects.
The Senate already passed a massive gambling expansion bill to turn Illinois into a gambling Mecca. The House staff is now working on their own gambling expansion bill, which doubles the number of gambling positions in Illinois and includes:
- City-owned land-based casino in Chicago with 4,000 gambling positions (more than triple the size of existing casinos)
- Additional casino
- 3,500 gambling positions at existing casinos,
- 3,500 slot machines at racetracks to transform them into land-based casinos.
"Backroom deals" will be worked out in the next week to 10 days to sway Legislators to vote on the gambling expansion/construction/transit "package". Contact your state legislators in their district offices and ask them to OPPOSE gambling expansion. More gambling will not solve the State's fiscal problems, but it will create harm and more social costs.

- Call or visit your State Representative and Senator in their District office and ask them to OPPOSE the gambling expansion bill. If you have already called, ask your spouse, friend, co-worker, or neighbor to make the call.
