Sangamon County Vote Ignored - House Passes HB 4758
More than 63,800 registered voters, asked for the right to vote "before" gambling expanded in Sangamon County. Even though that represented 90 percent of the voters on the 1994 referendum, the Legislature did not respect the vote and wishes of the people in Sangamon County.
Today State Representatives voted to pass HB 4758 to expand the number of racing days at the State Fairgrounds from 6 days a year to up to nine months a year. The measure also brings with it, six off track betting parlors. Should Legislators pass a proposal to legalize slot machines at Illinois race tacks, it places the State Fairgrounds in a position to become a land-based casino.
