Gambling Action Alert

Coalition Recommends Massive Expansion of Gambling to fund Capital Construction

Yesterday Co-Chairs of the Governor's Illinois Works Coalition, former Speaker Dennis Hassert and Glenn Poshard, president of Southern Illinois University, recommended a massive expansion of gambling to help fund a $31 billion capital construction plan. The expansion includes:

• Leasing the Lottery (Internet Lottery and Video Lottery Terminals are possible expansions)
• A casino in Chicago
• One additional casino
• Slot machines at racetracks
• Expansion of gambling positions at existing casinos

This is an election year. Now is the time to contact your State Legislators and Legislative candidates. Gambling was expanded in 1999 to fund construction projects. Many schools are still waiting for the money from Illinois First to fund those promised projects.

For Immediate Action

1. Call your State Representative and Senator (217-782-2000) and tell them NO MORE GAMBLING.
2. Share this Action Alert with your church, synagogue, or mosque.
3. Forward to 10 others.
